On October 24th, 2018 two primary schools from different communities joined together to take part in a CASE Peace IV Project. St. Boden’s N.S., Culdaff – a catholic primary school with 74 pupils and St. Mura’s N.S., Buncrana – A church of Ireland primary school with 28 pupils. Our aim was to encourage positive relationships and collaboration with children from different backgrounds.
We decided to achieve this goal through the use of STEM technology & materials in the classroom. The resources needed were funded by Leargas, for example coding materials, maths resources etc. as well as transport costs and entrance to STEM events and experiences for the pupils. Our project aims to create an understanding of differences and create positive relationships and friendships between our pupils. We decided technology in the classroom was one way to ensure this goal was achieved.
Check out the photos of our recent ‘STEM: Science in the classroom’ when St. Mura’s N.S visited St. Boden’s N.S. and took part in lots of experiments together. We have many events planned in the future such as coding in the classroom, school tours to W5 Belfast and a trip to the beach where we use sand for lots of engineering tasks. We can’t wait to have more STEM fun together this year!
